BIO
Brian C. Johnson is one of the freshest voices on economic equality and civil rights in our country today.
He currently serves as the CEO of the transformative LGBTQ civil rights organization Equality Illinois. During his time at Equality Illinois, he has worked in coalition with countless organizations to help make Illinois one of the most equitable and affirming states for LGBTQ people in the country.
Prior to his time at Equality Illinois, Brian spent nearly two decades as a leader in social justice. He has served as a first-grade teacher in Baton Rouge, a public-school leader in Hollywood, a candidate for public office in Los Angeles, and a leader of a national team of community organizers working in two dozen locations across the country.
Brian is also the author of the upcoming book Our Fair Share: How One Small Change Can Create a More Equitable American Economy (Broadleaf Books 2021) which tackles economic inequality in America. Called “deeply moving” and a book “anyone concerned about the rising gap between the ultra-wealthy and everyone else in America should read,” Our Fair Share brings together personal stories, rich data, and a bold vision to make a compelling case for a more just and fair American economy.
Brian lives with his husband and daughter in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago. For an extended bio, please click here.
